Alexandra van der Kruk
Senior Vice President, Senior Tax Manager

The best part about W. P. Carey is the culture. The environment is relaxed and welcoming, the people are kind and compassionate, and collaboration is always encouraged.
Describe your role at WPC. What are you responsible for?
I am a Senior Tax Manager at W. P. Carey based in our Amsterdam office. My job really has two sides. The first relates to internal restructurings and involves working cross-departmentally to ensure our business is operating on a cost- and tax-efficient basis. The second involves supporting the Investments Team with the tax aspects of our international real estate transactions. This includes developing feasibility assessments, determining the tax implications of the respective jurisdictions, and analyzing and developing the transaction structuring needed to close deals. This is an exciting part of my role because I get end-to-end involvement on the deal side and have the opportunity to ensure tax efficiency throughout the lifecycle of our investments.
Describe your career journey.
Prior to W. P. Carey, I worked for one of the largest tax and legal firms in the Netherlands. My role was very similar to what I do at W. P. Carey – advising multinational clients on tax planning and real estate transactions. I enjoyed my time working there but was always curious what it would be like to work in-house. So, when one of my former colleagues found out that a role was opening up at W. P. Carey, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to interview. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone during the interview process and thought the role was a great fit, so I accepted the position – and I’m glad I did! Every day is different, and that keeps work exciting and interesting.
What do you think it takes to succeed at WPC?
In order to succeed, you need to be proactive and solutions-oriented. One thing I’ve learned since being here is there is no such thing as an “unsolvable problem” at W. P. Carey!
It’s also important to be a strong communicator and have a dynamic and flexible work style. We work with so many departments and external parties, so it’s critical to be able to succinctly convey your point, manage different needs and expectations, and adapt quickly when new developments arise.
What’s the best part about WPC?
The best part about W. P. Carey is the culture. The environment is relaxed and welcoming, the people are kind and compassionate, and collaboration is always encouraged. I also love that every transaction is a new challenge and learning experience, which keeps me on my toes.
