Welcome to W. P. Carey.

From the moment I stepped foot into Shanghai in 2003 (my first of many trips throughout China), I have found only friendship. It is with great excitement that W. P. Carey opened its first Asia office in Shanghai, China – a city that is very close to my heart.

We hope that we can be of help to you in all of your corporate financing needs. For 38 years, we have been serving the financing needs of companies, governments and private equity firms by helping them unlock the value of their real estate through sale-leaseback financing. Acting as principals in transactions from USD $5 million to USD $1 billion, we have provided capital to numerous companies by freeing up value trapped in real estate, enabling them to grow their core businesses. The combined real estate assets of our public company and CPA^® series of REITs now total approximately USD $11.8 billion and include more than 989 properties across 18 countries.

We have a long history of net-lease financing. We pioneered the sale-leaseback as a mainstream form of financing in the U.S. and have been a leader in introducing sale-leaseback to corporations and governmental entities throughout Europe and now in Asia.

Ever since we first planted our roots in Asia with the establishment of Arizona State University’s W. P. Carey EMBA Shanghai program in 2003, we have been excited about the growth of Asia. We completed our first transaction with a Hong Kong-based firm in 2005 and now own three facilities in Malaysia and Thailand.

We have witnessed the great growth potential of China. We believe this is one of the most important markets from a long-term perspective for our sale-leaseback business. At the same time, as a successful international investment fund manager, we recognize the uniqueness of this market and thus are also actively exploring other flexible investment strategies that meet various needs from local regulators and investors.
