Charter School
The Emily N. Carey High School opened its doors at Boys & Girls Harbor in New York City in 2005 on the strength of a $2 million pledge from the W. P. Carey Foundation. One of the first organizations to open a charter in New York State, Boys & Girls Harbor today annually serves 3,500 underprivileged children from East Harlem, Harlem and the South Bronx in preschool through ninth grade.
Emphasizing the holistic development of an individual, Boys & Girls Harbor has a mission to empower children and their families to become full, productive participants in society through education, cultural enrichment and social services. With 100 students currently enrolled and half of the pledge awarded, Emily N. Carey Harbor School offers an extended day, extended year, college-preparatory curriculum in the arts and sciences to develop lifelong learners with a strong ethical and moral set of values.
